7 -- Today, you did your first quickwrite. We will continue using these as we read The Giver. If you did not have your vocabulary today, be sure you have that tomorrow. Your quiz is next Wednesday. We will pick up in the book tomorrow at chapter 5! Be sure you are caught up!
8 -- Vocabulary #1 quiz tomorrow! Be sure you review your words. We will pause in the novel tomorrow to begin filling in our novel packets. Homework: 7 -- read through chapter 4 8 -- study your vocabulary 7 -- Today you all shared your opinions and thoughts on some of the topics we will be studying as we read The Giver. We were also able to read chapter 1.
8 -- Today we discussed quickwrites and how they will look and be used for this unit. Remember to keep up with the last four in order to turn them in on time. We also finished most of chapter 1. Depending on your class, you have 4 or 8 pages to read to complete the chapter. Be sure to do that on your own before we meet again on Thursday! Homework: 7 -- Vocabulary #1-15: diefinition and example sentence for each; read 15-20 minutes each day of your Independent reading book. 8 -- Finish chapter 1 on your own; read 15-20 minutes each day of your Independent reading book; study your vocabulary words (first quiz on Friday!) *Reminder: Bring your Musical slip Monday
7B -- Great looking utopias everyone. If you did not bring your section of your social media campaign today, remember to bring it on Monday. Each day it is late, your grade is lowered! ALL 7th GRADE: We will begin class Monday with your persuasive techniques quiz. You can review with any of the links at the bottom of this post. 8 -- Today we completed the pre-reading bias activity for Lord of the Flies. We will begin reading Monday! We will be completing two activities in preparation for reading Lord of the Flies.
7A -- Great looking utopias! If you did not have yours printed for class, be sure you bring it tomorrow for up to 90%. 7B -- You all did some great work on your utopia projects today. Remember to have them printed BEFORE class. We will be having a gallery walk to evaluate and learn about the different societies the class created. Homework: 8 -- first 10 vocabulary words: a.) definition, b.) example sentence 7 -- study for the persuasive techniques quiz!! (It is moved to Monday!!!) 8 -- Today your group should have started the assembly process for your project. Tomorrow you will have 30-40 minutes of class time to make revisions, edit, and upload the work to Google Drive.
7A -- Check your e-mail for the PPT templates I sent out. If you are struggling with Google Slides, you can use those. If you are recuperating the persuasion practice you will find the links to the video and practice game below. Remember that you also need to come up with 2 original examples of each persuasive technique: ethos, pathos, and logos. Bring that to Open Door tomorrow at the A.M. recess. 8 -- Steps 4,5,& 6 of your Banned Book Project should be complete at this point. Each day you have not shown me your work and had it signed-off, the work becomes another day late! Make sure you are showing me your work as you move along with each step. Tomorrow you will begin putting the pieces of the project together. Homework: 7A&B-- Download Google Slides 7B -- complete your persuasive technique statements 8A&B -- Complete any of the steps leading to step 7 that you have not completed. 7B -- MAP testing -- Today you all should have completed your MAP testing! Yeah! Congratulations. We will take some time to look at those results in the coming weeks.
7A -- Today we discussed persuasive techniques that you will be using in your utopia social media project. You should have slogans and catchphrases to use in your campaign. Due tomorrow: the Ethos, Pathos, Logos handout 8 -- Today your group should have gotten one step closer to completing your Banned Book project. By the end of class each member of your group should have started on one of the following parts: Outline, Image finding, or Works Cited page (these sections are due tomorrow) Book and Movie trailers for banned books 7A -- I hope you all did well on your MAP math test today. I saw some difficult problems in there! Remember, you should have your utopia brainstorming handout completed for Monday. Each group member should also have 10 images that represent your utopia saved into a Google Drive folder and shared with me.
7B -- We had a chance to discuss our utopias in class today, and it sounds like many of you have very positive and wonderful aspirations for society! If your group did not get your brainstorming handout marked off, be sure to do that when you enter class Monday. Each member of your group should also have 10 images that represent your utopia saved into a Google Drive folder and shared with me. 8 -- Everyone should be in a group and have chosen a banned book to research. Your 4 individual research questions are due on Monday when you come to class. Don't forget to save the MLA citations for your sources! Homework: 7 -- 10 images (each member) that represent your utopia. 8 -- 4 research questions about your banned book with MLA citations. 8B -- Great job with the MAP testing today. We should have those results soon, so you can see your overall progress.
8A -- You all started your Banned Book project today. The research questions are due completed on Monday. Don't forget to include MLA citation information for your sources! Also, any information you need can be found above on the Lord of the Flies page under the project heading. 7 -- Today you began brainstorming your ideal utopia with your group. 7A will need to have that completed electronically tomorrow afternoon. 7B, you will have time in class to finish the brainstorming. Homework: 7 -- Brainstorm utopia 8A -- Complete your 4 research questions 7: I heard from many of you that you rocked the reading section of the MAP test today. Congratulations to you if you raised your score. I know that reading can be long! Also, great job today in class with the Kahoot language review. Check your e-mail. You have access to those games if you choose to play them while you're lounging at home tomorrow!
8: Many of you made more progress at the review station rotations. Many of you were able to identify certain activities that were helping you remember concepts. You have access to those practice materials through the link on Rediker. ...if you get bored tomorrow... :) Homework: If you were at Binationals last week, you should choose and bring your Independent reading book to class Thrusday. *All students should have your Independent reading book in class beginning Thursday. 7&8: Good job today reviewing and practicing your reading and language skills. We will continue the rotations tomorrow. If there is something you want to review again, or if you want to practice something else, remember that you have access to the MAP practice folder.
