The WHY
Blogs are your chance to express yourself and to practice your writing and technology skills. While the topics you write about do not have to be “serious” or officially “academic,” they should still be substantial and thoughtful (and humor is always good, too).
One of the writing skills you will need to develop for college is called “code-switching.” Your natural writing and speaking voice is often far too casual to be used in formal, academic writing. While your analytical essay assignments are designed to help you develop this academic voice, the voice of your posts should be distinctively your own. In this way, the blog should help you develop your personal writing voice. But remember, while the language of each post is meant to be casual and authentically your own, there should be few (if any) surface errors in spelling, punctuation, grammar, and/or format in each post. Personal writing does not mean sloppy writing. You should look as smart in your personal voice as you do in your academic voice.

While the content of your posts will be yours to select, you must remain cognizant of the digital footprint you will be leaving behind. Be sure to maintain a positive online reputation and keep all of your posts school appropriate.
You also need to develop your multimedia skills by working on the visual design aspects of your blog and posts. You must select a theme for your blog and give it a unique subtitle.
Each post must include pictures, videos, and/or hyperlinks to enhance its content. Your design choices should reflect your personality and/or the personality you want to give to your blog.

The GRADING
While the content of your posts will be yours to choose, you will have writing requirements to go along with each post. This requirement comes from a grammar or mechanic convention you have been working on. Instead of telling you what to write, I will be assessing how you write. More specifically, I will be looking to see if you have employed a variety of English writing conventions we practice in class.
*HALF of the grade is based on your correct use of the grammar or mechanic convention!
